Stephen Gooden, "Diana"

Gooden was born in England in 1892. He was educated at Rugby and
the Slade School in London, England. He served in both world wars
and later look up Line Engraving for book illustration. This print
was made under difficult war conditions the edition was made, the
print shop being littered with broken glass from bombing during
printing operations. |

Leighton (1898-1989) was one of the finest engravers of her time.
She also was a graduate of the Slade School in London. In 1939 she
emigrated to the United States, where she worked on book illustrations
and lectured at the National Academy of Design. The Ashmolean museum
at Oxford held a major retrospective of her work in 1992.
